MenuLens Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Damen-C (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the MenuLens Android app and related services. MenuLens scans Japanese restaurant menus, provides English explanations, and may generate illustrative AI dish images.
1. Information we process
- Menu images and extracted menu text. When you take or select a menu photo, the image is transmitted to the MenuLens service for optical character recognition and AI-assisted interpretation. The image may incidentally contain information beyond the menu, so please avoid including people, payment cards, receipts, or other sensitive information.
- App and device information. We process a Firebase anonymous user identifier, Android device identifier, app version, time zone, request identifiers, authentication tokens, and basic technical request information. We use this information to authenticate requests, enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and maintain service reliability.
- Usage and entitlement information. We process scan counts, plan status, subscription status, and entitlement expiration so that free limits and MenuLens Pro features work correctly.
- Purchase information. Purchases are completed by Google Play. MenuLens receives a purchase token, product identifier, subscription state, and expiration information so that the purchase can be verified and restored. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
- AI image reports. If you report an inappropriate AI-generated image, we process the report reason, a limited technical fingerprint of the image request, and associated authentication information to investigate and improve safeguards.
- Locally stored information. MenuLens stores revealed dish history, remaining local credits, verified Pro status, and cached AI-generated images on your device. The app limits revealed history to the most recent entries.
- Support communications. If you email us, we receive the email address and information you choose to provide.
2. How we use information
We use information only as reasonably necessary to provide menu scanning and explanations, generate requested dish references, operate subscriptions, enforce quotas, secure the service, respond to support and deletion requests, diagnose problems, prevent fraud or abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Service providers and disclosures
MenuLens uses service providers that process information on our behalf:
- Google Cloud Vision processes uploaded menu images for optical character recognition.
- Google Gemini processes extracted menu text and dish descriptions to provide explanations and requested AI-generated reference images.
- Google Cloud, including Cloud Run, Firestore, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Logging, hosts the service, usage records, generated-image cache, and operational logs.
- Firebase Authentication creates and verifies an anonymous app identity.
- Google Play distributes the app and processes subscription purchases.
These providers may process information in countries other than your own under their applicable terms and privacy commitments. Google’s practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
4. Menu-image and AI-output retention
MenuLens reads uploaded menu images for the active scan request and does not intentionally retain the original menu image on MenuLens servers after processing completes. Extracted menu results are returned to the app and are not intentionally stored as a server-side menu history. Google service providers may process request data under their own service terms.
AI-generated dish images are based on dish names and descriptions—not on the original menu photograph—and may be cached on the device and in MenuLens cloud storage so that equivalent requests can reuse them. Cached images are removed when no longer needed for the service or through routine maintenance.
5. Other retention and deletion
- Local history and cached data remain on the device until you clear them, Android clears cached files, or you uninstall the app.
- Anonymous identity, quota, and entitlement records are retained while needed to operate MenuLens, enforce limits, verify purchases, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
- Operational logs are generally retained for no longer than 90 days, unless a longer period is reasonably necessary for security, fraud investigation, legal compliance, or resolving a support issue.
- When we can verify a deletion request, we will delete or anonymize associated MenuLens-controlled data within 30 days, except information that must be retained for security, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
To request deletion, visit our MenuLens data deletion page or email menulens.support@gmail.com. Deleting MenuLens data does not automatically cancel a Google Play subscription; subscriptions can be managed in Google Play.
6. Security
We use encrypted network connections, authenticated API requests, access controls, limited logging, and other reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices
- You can decline camera permission and select an existing image instead.
- You can clear revealed history from within MenuLens and clear other local data through Android settings or by uninstalling the app.
- You can manage or cancel MenuLens Pro through Google Play subscriptions.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of applicable MenuLens-controlled information by contacting us. Local law may provide additional rights.
8. Children’s privacy
MenuLens is a general travel and dining utility and is not designed for children under 13 or the minimum age required in their country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where applicable.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when MenuLens features, service providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.
